The World According to Beaver
by Irwyn Applebaum, Jerry Mathers (Introduction)
This is a great book for Leave It to Beaver fans
with background info, show quotes and dialog organized by topic,
and an episode guide. The characters are described with show
details and dialog samples. Reading the episode summaries, I can't
help smiling. The author wrote a useful and fun guide to the show.
Call Me Lumpy : My Leave It to Beaver Days and Other Wild Hollywood Life
by Frank Bank, Gib Twyman, Jerry Mathers, Brad Breon
Gee, what was the Beav really like? Was Wally
actually that squeaky-in-his-sneakers clean? Was Eddie Haskell the
personification of every parents nightmare? Well Frank Bank is
here to tell you everything about life with America's most-loved
family, the Cleavers. Frank played Clarence Rutherford, something
of a teenage misfit himself. He was always telling other kids,
"Don't call me Lumpy," (but of course that is what they
called him). Find out about Frank's Leave it to Beaver Days and
Other Wild Hollywood Life.

Dave
Smith Writes: Hi Morty,
What did Ward Clever do for a living? Morty Writes:
Hi Dave,
I've read a several articles that have given differing
answers, engineer, ad man, architect, and although advertising exec may be the closest,
as a big fan of the show I can tell you they're wrong. They never said what Ward does.
We know that Fred Rutherford and Ward competed for
the same account,the
company had a market research department, and the office was located in Mayfield, an unlikely
location for a large ad agency.
Rumors of him being an
engineer or architect might have come from the fact that
in more than one episode Ward spoke of his days in the
Navy Seabees.When
"Still the Beaver" was made I remember
they defined Ward's job.I was angry that whatever they made up conflicted
with what we knew from the original series.
I have this same
problem with people writing me about Ozzie's work in
"The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet."The series started on radio, and the character was
a band leader.When
it when to TV, his schedule and lifestyle sure didn't look
like bandleader.But
then Ricky Ricardo was always leaving for the club in the
morning.Where
did he find a band that would work to 2:00AM and be back
for rehearsal at 9:00AM?
Jerry
Mathers was discovered at age 2 by a department store manager who
used Jerry's photo on the store's Christmas calendar.
In 1954, at age 2.5 Jerry made his TV debut on The Ed
Wynn Show. In 1955 his made his movie debut in Alfred
Hitchcock's "The Trouble With Harry."
Tony
Dow's mother was Murial Montros, an actress in the "Our
Gang" comedies. He got his first job by accident
when he accompanied a friend to an audition to lend moral support.
But Tony got the job instead.
The Movies:
OK, I didn't like the
movies, I felt they missed the spirit of the original series, but
for those of you that loved, or just want to have a complete
'Beaver' collection, here they are:

childhood in the '50s gets a modest updating for the '90s in a
charming comedy for all ages. Cameron Finley stars as precocious
Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver, whose world revolves around
his rivalry with big brother Wally (Erik von Detten), playing
football to impress parents Ward (Christopher McDonald) and June
